MYANMAR 3D GUNS

In the aftermath of Myanmar’s 2021 coup, rebels opposing the military dictatorship have turned to 3D-printed firearmsas a key tool in their fight. Limited access to conventional weaponry has led to the adoption of the FGC-9, a 3D-printed firearm, which is widely used in guerrilla ambushes and close-quarters combat.

While 3D-printed guns are often linked to criminal groups, their primary application has been among rebels fighting totalitarian regimes, such as in Myanmar. Security experts has highlighted the support of the 3D-printed gun community, predominantly based in the United States, in assisting Myanmar rebels. This collaboration occurs through online platforms like Reddit where information and designs are shared.

Myanmar rebels have also developed local variants of the FGC-9, including the Stingray, which are reportedly used for training and urban warfare. The use of 3D-printed weapons underscores the role of decentralized technology in modern resistance movements, particularly under regimes with restricted access to conventional arms.
