BANTAR GEBANG

Bantar Gebang, situated in Bekasi on Jakarta’s eastern periphery, functions as the capital’s principal refuse depot. The complex spans roughly 100 hectares, receiving 7,000–9,000 tonnes of urban waste each day. Continuous deposition since the 1980s has produced a waste mass exceeding 45 million tonnes, now rising more than 50 metres above grade—an engineered escarpment that mirrors the metropolitan scale it sustains.
