MONA FANDEY

Mona Fandey (born 1958; executed 1995) was a Malaysian singer and self-proclaimed witch who gained notoriety for her involvement in a high-profile criminal case. She was known for her appearance on ‘Muzik Muzik,’ a music performance show on Malaysian broadcaster TV3, and for her album Diana I, released in 1987.

Fandey’s notoriety surged following her conviction for the brutal murder of Malaysian politician Datuk Mazlan Idris in 1993. Along with her husband and an accomplice, she lured Idris to her home, where they murdered him in a ritualistic manner, dismembering his body into 18 pieces. The case attracted widespread media attention and public outrage due to its gruesome details and the involvement of a celebrity.

Mona Fandey was convicted of murder and subsequently executed by hanging in 1995.
